*NCAA Division II Playoffs

Hillsdale College has just completed a historical season of football that included earning its first ever NCAA Division II playoff berth in school history and a 27-24 homecoming victory over then #1 ranked Grand Valley State. GVSU had won 48 straight regular season games before finding feet of clay at Muddy Waters Stadium on October 10.

Hillsdale joined the NCAA D2 ranks in the fall of 1990 and won a conference title in 1992, but until now had never qualified for the post-season in the division. Hillsdale had great playoff success as an NAIA school in the 1980’s, claiming a share of the 1985 NAIA National Title.

The Playoff push began in Mankato, MN on November 14 as Hillsdale entered the field as the 6th seed in Super Region III. A 34 yard field goal in overtime over #3 seed Minnesota State gave Hillsdale its first ever Division II Playoff victory. 27-24

Hillsdale ran into a buzz saw the next week at Allendale as Grand Valley avenged the Chargers’ earlier shocker enroute to a 44-27 playoff win. Hillsdale ended the season at 10-3. Ten wins is the most since the 1988 campaign.
