He was a record setting quarterback and assistant coach at Hillsdale College before moving on to become head coach at Northwood after guiding Hillsdale to a share of the 1992 MIFC title as offensive coordinator. Since then Pat Riepma has served that position and eventually became the school’s athletic director. Under his direction, the Timberwolves joined NCAA Division II, won three GLIAC titles, and reached the national playoffs four times.
As quarterback of the 1982 Chargers, Riepma led Hillsdale to its last undefeated regular season, a GLIAC championship, and all of the way to the NAIA semifinals.
Sadly Pat Riepma lost a long and courageous fight with cancer this morning, passing away at age 54. The Hillsdale family joins all of the players, former teammates, and fans who were lucky enough to know Coach Riepma in prayers for his family. He was a wily tactician on the field and sidelines and was the epitome of a gentleman and family man off of the field. His deep faith in God, easy smile, and gentle demeanor were trademarks of a man who valued every day and made those around him better. He will be deeply missed.
As soon as funeral arrangements are known, they will be posted here on Chargerblue.com.
