Arizona Cardinals team captain and left tackle Jared Veldheer was back in Grand Rapids at his alma mater Forest Hills Northern High School Tuesday night to host a youth football camp.
Veldheer is a 2009 Hillsdale College grad and a handful of former Hillsdale players assisted. Bob Losik who coaches at Hamilton High School arrived in Hillsdale to play for the then Dales in 1963. Brendan Oosse will officially arrive on campus as a freshman in just over a month. That covers over 50 years of Hillsdale tradition. Brent Myers (not pictured below) was Jared’s head coach in high school and continues to coach in the program at FHN. He was a key member of the 1992 Charger team that shared a piece of the MIFC championship.
Jared’s main message was one of encouragement and to never give up on anything. He told the middle school players assembled that there was no way he would have even dreamed in eighth grade that he would some day be in the NFL. Each camper also took home a copy of “Stay In the Game, Jared Veldheer’s Journey To the NFL”.
The Grand Rapids ABC affiliate was on hand to talk to Jared about the camp and his path to the NFL.
