From what turned out to be the best matchup and most entertaining football game involving a GLIAC team, three Hillsdale College performances stood out as tops among the conference.
Today kicker Steven Mette was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his three field goals, three extra points, and excellent punting in the win over GLVC foe #16 Indianapolis.
Quarterback Chance Stewart topped all GLIAC passers with his 320 yards that came on a 69% completion average. Stewart threw for two TD with no interceptions. This was the first time Stewart has cracked the 300 yard mark. Michigan Tech’s Brandon Cowie was the next closest league competitor with 280 yards.
In addition, Missouri City, TX receiver Trey Brock had a historic night at wide receiver. Not only did his 197 yards rank best among the GLIAC, it was the most yards ever recorded in a regular-season game by a Hillsdale receiver. The highlight was a 60 yard strike from Stewart that featured a nifty spin move freeing Brock from the lone defender and resulting in a third quarter touchdown. Wayne State’s Jamel Hicks had the next best performance with 154 yards and two touchdowns.
